Unless the property in question has a moisture problem or been damaged by moisture intrusion caused by an event such as a flood, storm damage, pipe leak, shower leak, etc, the reason for mould growth and condensation generation is always a lack of ventilation. A remedy must be provided for permanent relief. There are several ways to increase ventilation in the property to ensure no repeat of the mould generation, once the property has been dried. This is an important point - if the property suffers from mould generation due to poor ventilation, simply adding ventilation without first drying the property down to normal levels of moisture, will not reverse the situation. Mouldco can provide all of these ventilation solutions:
Increase Natural Ventilation
All buildings, roof cavities and subfloors require ventilation. The simplest and cheapest way to increase ventilation is by opening doors and windows more often. This process - after drying the damp property - can be experimented with over a period of time to determine its success before moving to more expensive solutions.
Add New or Repair Existing Passive Vents
Buildings and subfloor areas breath through windows and doors and through passive vents installed in the wall of the property or on the external wall of the subfloor, allowing air to circulate from outside to in and visa versa. By repairing existing malfunctioning (blocked) existing passive vents or adding new passive vents, the required ventilation can often be achieved.
Install Forced Mechanical Ventilation to the Subfloor or Building (or Both)
Often a forced air mechanical ventilation system is the only way to resolve ventilation issues in the subfloor or in the property itself. In the subfloor this will involve installing between 1 and 4 ducted fans which will circulate fresh air from outside the property and expel moist, stale air from the crawlspace. Internally, a roof space mounted ducted system will vent from all the rooms in the property, and remove built up moisture. Or a single or dual room system can be mounted either in the roof space or through a wall.
