How to permanently erradicate mould from the built environment
Some companies involved in the mould remediation industry only clean the mould from the affected areas without considering how or why the mould grew in the first place. This approach is both negligent and a waste of the customers' money as there is no guarantee that the mould will not regenerate itself.
The answer is that the cleaning of the affected areas MUST be combined with the identifying and drying of the areas that are causing the mould to grow. One without the other is a waste of time - and cleaning without drying can also be dangerous for occupants' health, as airborne mould spores will continue to be an issue until the affected area is 'sterilised'.
Typically, our mould remediation services involve both mould cleaning and drying the property simultaneously. Once the cause of the mould is identified - a lack of ventilation or an increase in water or both - it must be reversed or eliminated (increase ventilation or decrease moisture or both). At the same time, the cleaning of the affected area must be initiated. This entails cleaning the mould from both the hard surfaces where mould has grown as well as the indoor atmosphere where mould spores lurk.
If the moisture in the dwelling is the result of a one off incident (flood, burst pipe etc) then resolving the issues is simple. Stem the source of the moisture, dry the property and remediate the mould. Once the source of the moisture is resolved and the dwelling dried, mould growth will not reappear.
If the moisture in the dwelling has been caused by a lack of ventilation and not an event, then this is referred to as an atmospheric imbalance and this imbalance must be resolved otherwise mould growth will return after cleaning or remediation.
The Mouldco Drying Process
Our drying services are the most powerful in the country because we invest in the very best equipment. Generally speaking, the faster the drying process, the better - and the longer the drying takes, the more damage is caused by the presence of moisture. Accordingly, we have invested in the most sophisticated and powerful heat drying systems available in the world today.
Our trailer mounted diesel burning unit is designed for fast drying of both the subfloor crawl space and internal living areas. Our computer controlled Drymatic is designed to both heat dry and control the drying of internal areas of the affected property. Mouldco can dry any section of the indoor environment, including wall cavities. We have purpose specific equipment - called an Injectidry - that can dry behind plaster walls without removing the plaster.
Drying with Dehumidification and Airmovement to eliminate damp conditions which promote mould growth
The traditional method of drying buildings involved the use of airmovers and dehumidifiers. The airmovers create movement and evaporation of the moisture and the dehumidifiers remove the evaporating air from the indoor atmosphere by drying it. Whilst efficient, adding heat to the process greatly speeds up the entire process, offering quicker and more efficient relief - potentially saving thousands of dollars in repair and replacement costs.
Adding Heat to the drying process helps to eliminate damp conditions which promote mould growth
By adding heat to the drying process, the rate of evaporation is dramatically increased, when combined with effective dehumidification and airmovement - creating the fastest and most thorough drying process available.
Our thermostat controlled room heaters (right), our 'Dragon' subfloor dryer and our Drymatic internal drying equipment all add up to the fastest drying process available in Australia.
